Turned on the radio to a great community radio station, KDHX, this morning for my two mile commute and ended up sitting in the parking lot for several minutes listening to this wonderful piece; good thing I left a little earlier than normal. Thanks to SoundHound I was able to identify the artist, Sufjan Stevens (no relation), and buy the album before going in. I’ve already played this song 4 or 5 times today, and have the album cued up in VLC. Good stuff.

Some of my favourites from this album
Then there’s the more obvious Chicago and Casimir Pulaski Day

His stuff is fun for a while...then wears pretty thin. Wasnt he supposed to be doing an album for each state?

There was talk of that, but he admitted that it really wasn’t going to happen.
I don’t know if I could listen to some of the stuff I’ve heard today multiple times, but other pieces have nice layering that makes for a richness in tone that seems to be lacking in a lot of highly-polished, overly-produced pop music. We have some dreadfully inoffensive station on at work, at least in the call center portion where I have to work a couple of days each week this month. The same saccharine tunes over and over and over, interrupted by some ‘80s stuff during the lunch hour. At lunch I had to get in the car and blast some Anthrax and Public Enemy to clear my ears a bit. I miss the days of ‘Morning Becomes Eclectic’ that was played and some stupid job I had 20+ years ago; the boss liked that show, as did I, so everyone else just had to take it...

I listened to this a lot 2 years ago. It’s excellent.
